A research group from India's Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology has fabricated monolayers of pure myelin basic protein (MBP) using the Langmuir-Blodgett technique.

(MBP), a major protein component of myelin sheath, which is a protective membrane that wraps around the axon of nerve cells and acts as a model protein in studying diseases like multiple sclerosis (MS).

They studied the behavior of MBP under variable pH conditions and found that the protein films remained flexible.

The closely packed MBP layer formed can be used to study different chemical and physical properties in 2D, and may also serve as protein nanotemplates.
